You know those evenings when you want to unwind and relax with loved ones over dinner and drinks but are looking for a new place in town to visit. Well, look no further, as The Westin Hotel’s Prego should be on your must-visit list the next time you are looking for an option for fine dining.
Located in Goregaon, right next to Oberoi Mall, The Westin Hotel cannot be missed when passing by the area. Prego is located on the ground floor which is easy to locate or you can always ask the front desk and they will guide you to your table at the restaurant. Read on to find out about our evening spent at Prego, which we left with a huge smile on our faces and planning our next visit.
During our visit, they had a special menu available from their “Tuscan Trails” food festival by celebrating summer specials with all ingredients that remind us or have an association with Italy. This festival is continuing until the end of the month!
As soon as you are seated, they serve you with an assorted bread platter with a tomato based sauce which is delicious.
Tuscan Summer Bread Salad: mixed vegetables with croutons and topped with homemade cheese makes for the perfect start to your meal given its very light and doesn’t have too much of dressing. There are some people who prefer not to eat salad for a meal, but the Tuscan summer bread salad will change your preference.
Ground Almonds with Sautéed Mushrooms: almond flour cooked with milk; topped with mushrooms, arugula leaves and truffle oil. This is perfect for all those who are looking to eat healthy and enjoy their meal as well.
Traditional summer Tuscan “reboiled” vegetable soup: Kale, onion, garlic, celery leaves, potato, canary beans, corn bread with extra virgin olive oil and tomato are well grounded in the mixer to give you the vegetable soup. The soup is pretty filling and healthy, so if you plan on eating light the salad and soup combination with a few drinks will be ideal for the night.
Creamy Porcini soup: cream of Porcini, a type of Funghi, had a very subtle yet striking taste. This one is perfect for all those who enjoying experimenting with different types of mushrooms. This soup can get a little too filling and heavy considering its base consists mainly of Porcini.
Pasta Rustica: Penne sautéed with Portobello mushrooms, artichoke, spinach, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and topped with goat cheese is a must-have at Prego. The balance of the vegetables, truffle oil and cheese is perfect in every way. We personally are a big fan of pastas and were very satisfied with the Pasta Rustica.
Potato and Pecorino Tortellini: Ring shaped Tortellini’s filled with potato and Pecorino cheese with a base of walnut and garlic cream. At first we were a little hesitant to try out the combination of walnut and garlic cream. Upon our first bite we couldn’t wait to have the whole dish! The mixture of the soft mash potatoes with cheese and the base sauce was heavenly. If you leave Prego without trying this dish, you are missing out on something amazing!
Spinach Gnocchi: soft dough dumplings cooked with spinach, cream and cheese was an absolute favorite in the main course as well. We couldn’t decide if we like the tortellini or the gnocchi more, so it’s safe to say that they are both delicious. If you are here with more than 4 people, you should definitely try out both so you can taste the best of both worlds.
Dessert: we wanted to taste a little bit of everything so we called for a platter consisting of homemade Jam Tart, Coffee and semi-frozen ice cream parfait and Florentine cake with chocolate with almond poached peaches. Just when we thought nothing else could make our night better, we were served with dessert. Perfectly cooked jam tart is for all the sweet tooth’s who love their dose of sweetness post their meal. While the Coffee and ice cream parfait is perfect for all the coffee addicts. Really hard to choose, but this was one of our favorites from the dessert platter. The Florentine cake, we would say is their specialty at Prego. Soft yet crunchy with almonds and chocolate was the star of the evening. Their desserts contain egg, so if you are allergic or don’t eat hidden egg, please do consult the staff before placing your order.
With all that food and dessert we had no place for water in our stomachs until we heard of homemade gelatos available at Prego! Yes, you read that right! They have a variety of homemade gelatos and sorbets available at the restaurant in case you are looking for a change from the regular dessert/coffee post your meal. We tried the
Watermelon and Basil: a very interesting combination of watermelon and basil which was crushed perfectly together giving it a sweet and salty taste. This reminded us of all the watermelon slushies we’ve had, but only better.
Coffee: we’ve learnt one thing about coffee, add coffee to any dish/dessert and it will not disappoint. Similarly, the gelato was neither too strong nor light. Recommended for ice-cream/coffee addicts.
Blueberry: juicy pieces of blueberry with gelato is recommended for those who are looking to end their meal on a sweet yet light note.
Tropic: juices of pineapple, orange, mango and crème topped with lots of ice makes for a nice change from the regular sweet drinks we’ve had yet.
Frutini: available in several flavors we chose to try out the Strawberry, Kiwi and Orange flavors. Not too sweet or strong, this made for a perfect drink in between meals. Recommended!
Prego should be on your list if you are looking to make the most of your time with a loved one, catching up with a long lost friend or would like to go all out and celebrate your birthday with loved ones. All in all, we had a great time at Prego and cannot wait to visit here again with our friends/family. We enjoyed a lovely evening with great company and delicious food. If you’ve been to Prego, do share your story with us. If not, what are you looking forward to the most? 🙂
PS. Their way of celebrating birthdays at the restaurants is very different and special. The entire staff team comes together singing the birthday song with lights dimmed out for a bit making the birthday girl/boy feel extra special.
